Headshot of Andrew Blackowiak

Andrew Blackowiak, LMSW (he/him)

Many people struggle to find meaning and connection in a time that increasingly demands productivity above all else. Despite their efforts, they may feel misunderstood by their older support system, or disillusioned from the suffering they experience in our ‘land of the free.’ What does that do to a person's sense of security? Their belief system? For some, thoughts of the future are tied to feelings of dread or anxiety. Thoughts of the past may be tied to shame, confusion, or betrayal. If you're searching for meaning, growth, and joy during this time, I am here to partner with you.

My practice is informed by DBT, ACT, and psychodynamic theory. My primary interests pertain to religious trauma, ADHD, and gender & sexual identity. I aim to be a fellow explorer and accountability partner. If nothing else, I am a curious person, and I thrive on finding the joy and (sometimes dark) humor in everyday life.

I understand that finding a therapist can be stressful, scary, or just irritating if you scroll long enough. If you're feeling that way, we can talk about it as we get started. Authenticity is never wasted, and I am willing to meet you in whatever stage you're at, mentally and emotionally. In our sessions, no topic is taboo or off the table (try me).

Note regarding EMDR:

Andrew is trained to provide EMDR using the standard 8-phase protocol. New EMDR clients should not expect to begin bilateral movements for at least three sessions. Instead, you'll explore your existing strengths (odds are that you have more than you think), values, coping strategies, and areas for growth. Sharing a full trauma history is not required (but always welcomed).
